Gift Ideas for Bibliophiles

Updated: May 29, 2023

In today's post I am going to compile a list of gift ideas for the book lover in your life. I will be marking the ones that are personally on my list as well or ones that I already have.

Book Sleeve

Book sleeves are, objectively, the best thing since sliced bread. I’m one of those people that can’t bear to see the crumpled edges of a book or a dog-eared page. A book sleeve is an absolute essential for people that always carry books around with them on the go as they protect from all sorts of knocks and spills.

I have one of these and I love it. It even fits my bigger hardbacks (I don't have very many but it's nice that it even fits those). Mine has a sloth riding a llama on it.

Book Stamp

These are great if your books get borrowed a lot.

I personally don't want one of these I am making my own book library organizer so I can keep track of what books I have.

Literary Mugs

You can never have too many mugs in my opinion and there are times that mugs can be used for other things rather than drinking as well.

I have a couple mugs that I use to hold pencils or bookmarks etc.

Bookends

Bookends are something that every book lover needs but is something that they probably won’t think about until it’s too late and they’ve got books tumbling all over the place.

These are more of a personally preference I think. I find other ways to store my books and fill my bookshelves as much as possible without needing bookends so this is not really something I would personally want.

Bookish Clothing

This can mean hoodies, socks, shirts etc that have literary quotes or other literary saying on them. There is a store on etsy that I love and I want to get a couple of her items.

The store is called WillowAndQuillShop on etsy if you want to check it out.

Tote Bags

Book lovers are all in need of tote bags. How else are you going to lug around all those new book purchases? And what could be better than a bookish tote bag. You could get one with a literary quote on it from their favourite book or author, one with a bookish design on it, or a quirky library card tote bag.

Book Subscription Boxes

Subscription boxes are all the rage at the moment, but did you know you can also buy them as gifts? A lot of subscription box services offer a gift option whereby you can buy someone 1, 3 or 6 months worth of boxes. Subscription boxes are quite literally the gifts that keep on giving. They’re a great gift option for those who are stumped about which book to buy someone as you can simply pick a theme or genre and let the subscription company do the work for you!

For me I don't really know if these are really worth it. I haven't gotten one yet because I am worried about not enjoying what is sent to me. The cost is also a big factor, the ones that I have found all seem to be rather expensive.

Book Journal

If you’re reading several books a week it can be difficult to keep track of all the books you get through. Years down the line you’ll probably have forgotten the details of the books you’ve read so when someone asks you what you thought you may not be able to offer more than a “good” or “meh”. That’s where book journals come in.After each book you finish, just jot down a few lines about what it was about and what you felt, maybe a star rating too if that’s your thing. Just think how lovely it will be to flick back through at the end of the year to see all the different stories you’ve read. You can buy a special book journal or just grab any old plain notebook. If you’re a particularly creative person you could create your own bullet-journal style notebook too!

Personally I created my own reading tracker and I love it. I have made one for my friend as well and my mom has since asked for one as well.

Kindle & Case

Kindles don’t come cheap. They are great because you can fit so many novels into one tiny package, but you’re left in a tricky situation if it breaks. Luckily, these days they are pretty resilient, and they don’t stop working easily. But they don’t have the advantage of ordinary books that can be read no matter how many times you drop them on the ground or in water!

I got a Kindle and a case for Christmas and I have to say I absolutely love it. The battery lasts a really long time and it is amazing being able to throw it in my bag before I leave the house and always have a book with me.

Reading Pillow

To me this simply means a really comfortable place to read your book that may be a big floor pillow or one of those sitting pillows for your bed. Find something that really works for that person.

I need to get a pillow for my bed for sitting at I like to sit up and read rather than laying down in bed to read.

Literary Stationary

This can mean notebooks, postcards, paper, pens etc. Anything that is literary themed.

I love stationary so I always look for new stuff.

Illustrated Versions

Since authors are coming out with illustrated versions of there books these are always a good idea as well. One big one that stands out is the Harry Potter books.

I have the first 2 in the illustrated version and I want to get the rest of them as well.

I hope this list helps you the next time your thinking about what to get the book lover in your life.
