30 before 30

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

Today's post is a recent trend that I have seen other bloggers do. I have never had a specified list of things but rather some ideas that bounce around in my head. Being that I am now 27 I have three years before turning 30 so I decided to make a list of things that I would love to be able to complete before then. The ones that aren't completed before 30 I want to complete before 40, basically this list will continue on. On this list, I know that there are a few things that will not be completed before I turn 30 but I have included them in this list because they will be included in my before 40 list. So let's dive into my list, I tried to give a little information on each entry, as well as I will update this list as I complete everything.

  • Learn a new language

This doesn't mean that I want to be fluent but I would like to have a conversational understanding of at least 1 more language and this is something I am already working on.

  • Learn to Snowboard

I would love to learn to snowboard. I have never done it because I am really worried about hurting myself but that's something I would really like to get over.

  • Go Paddle Boarding

I have always enjoyed kayaking and I think that paddle boarding is the next step. I know I don't have good balance so it will be interesting to see if I actually can do it.

  • Read all the books I own

This one is going to be extremely difficult for me. I have probably 200 books or more, not including the ones I have on my kindle. My issue is that I find books comforting so even if I buy them they sit on my shelf for quite a while before I get around to reading them.

  • Watch all Classic Disney Movies

I love Disney movies and I have almost all the old classics on DVD. I really want to be able to watch all the classics (as well as the newer ones).

  • Get a new Hobby

I have already started working on this one. I have always been interested in painting but always thought that I needed a definitive plan when starting a painting but I have since discovered that I don't need a plan and just have fun with it.

  • Take better care of my health

This is something that I really struggle with. With my mental health issues, I have always found it difficult to actually take good care of myself. I basically do the bare minimum and I know that needs to change.

  • Be more comfortable in my own skin

This is something that ties into taking better care of my health. I have had self-esteem issues for years and they have controlled what I feel comfortable doing. But I want that to change and that starts with taking better care of my health.

  • Adopt a pet

I want to get a dog badly. My current living situation will not allow me to get a dog but I would love to get one in the next couple of years.

  • Travel Solo

This one may or may not happen before I turn 30 because I am saving for a big trip for my 30th birthday but I may count this if I do the road trip I plan on doing next summer alone.

  • Learn to Meditate

I have tried to do this numerous times but I have a really hard time focusing on it. I really want to try and do this at least every other night if not every night before bed.

  • Do one thing that scares me

To be totally candid, lots of things scare me and that's all due to my anxiety but I want to be able to do at least one thing that scares me in the next 3 years.

  • Eat in a restaurant alone

This is something that even when I went to counseling that one of my counselors suggested as something to work up to as my anxiety was getting more under control. I really want to do this, it's now more of an awkward thing for me rather than it scares me to do it.

  • Simplify my life

I have started doing this because when I came back from PEI all of my stuff was still packed up in boxes and with that, I still have not gotten all the boxes out. Most of my books are still packed as well as 6 other tubs of stuff. I really want to simplify my life even more and I think it would work better for me when I actually move out.

  • Solo Photoshoot

This ties into the do something that scares me point, I hate taking pictures. Any pictures others take of me I hate, and when I take selfies I use Snapchat filters all the time because I hate the way my skin looks, and it's just not something that I like. But I want to be comfortable enough in my own skin to do a boudoir shoot or even just a regular shoot.

  • Journal Daily

When I was getting counseling I was doing this at least every other day and it's something that I really want to get back into, especially if I start traveling more on my own, I would love to have those written memories as well as photos.

  • Make new friends

This is something that I really struggle with and I think it's even harder now that I am older. I have 1 really good friend and I have quite a few international friends that I have never met face to face but rather chat on Whatsapp mostly.

  • Research my family tree

I started doing this already and I have to say I can't wait to get further back in my family tree to see what else I can discover. If you have the option to do this I highly suggest it. Most of my family has also done DNA testing with Ancestry.

  • Take a solo road trip

This is something that I am planning next summer. I can't wait, I usually travel with my sister but I've wanted to take a solo road trip for quite a while but never had the guts to actually do it.

  • Get a new car

This is more of a need rather than a want to, I am really hoping as long as work continues that I can get a newer car next spring but I will have to wait and see if that happens.

  • Let go of old grudges

I'm really bad for not letting go of things that people have done/said to me in the past and I will always remember that. The problem with that is I will hold it against the person. I want to stop doing that, if they apologize then let it go.

  • Get a Productive Morning Routine

My current morning routine is kind of stupid to put it plainly. I really want to have a productive morning routine, to do this I think I will look up some ideas online and see if I can take bits from different routines that will work for me.

  • Create and stick to a monthly budget

I have an income and expenses tracker that I have been using but I don't have a definitive budget that I stick to monthly and I want that to change.

  • Climb a Mountain

This is something that when I started hiking with my sister I really wanted to do. There is a mountain near me called Teapot mountain and I really want to climb it. It's been a goal of mine for a while.

  • Go to DisneyWorld

Most likely this will not happen before my 30th birthday but I wanted to put it in this list because it is on my bucket list and really has been since I went to Disneyland in 2008.

  • Break a bad habit

One of my worst habits is picking my face (gross I know) but I have tried to combat that by getting my nails done and having the acrylics seems to stop me from picking but I want a more permanent solution so when I don't have my nails done I still don't do it. My face was slowly clearing up but because I haven't had my nails done in quite a while there are now a few more spots showing up that I have irritated.

  • Try New Foods

I am really picky when it comes to food. I want to force myself to try new foods whether that's in restaurants or cooking new foods at home.

  • Complete a Challenge

Not sure what challenge I want to complete but I will look up some ideas online and will update this once I know for sure what I really want to do.

  • Make my next bucket list

Closer to my 30th I want to create another list of things that I would love to do before I turn 40. (which is crazy to think about)

  • Be unapologetically me

I have had a hard time being myself with people. My family and my best friend are probably the only people that know the real me and I really want to change that and be myself all the time rather than hiding parts of myself when not in my home environment.

There you have it, 30 things that I would love to complete before I turn 30.

Do you have a list like this?

Another style of this list that I have seen is even planning further into the future, like 30 things I want to do before I retire, or 30 things to do before I turn 50. It all depends on your own personal preference.
